Tiokasin Ghosthorse talks with returning guest Martín Prechtel (Cree). Martín is a leading thinker, writer and teacher in the search for the Indigenous soul in all people; and is a dedicated student of eloquence, history, language and an ongoing fresh approach. In his native New Mexico Martín teaches at his international school Bolad’s Kitchen, a hands-on historical and spiritual immersion into language, music, ritual, farming, cooking, smithing, natural colors, architecture, animal raising, clothing, tools, story, grief and humor to help people from many lands, cultures and backgrounds to remember and retain the majesty of their diverse origins, while cultivating the flowering of integral culture in the present to grow a time of hope beyond our own. Martín’s books include: “The Smell of Rain on Dust” (North Atlantic Books, 2015) and “Secrets of the Talking Jaguar." More about Martín can be found at Interdisciplinary artist Elizabeth Phelps-Meyer is the second guest of the hour. Elizabeth integrates a variety of approaches from the fine arts as well as from performance, poetry and craft traditions to create installations as well as moving images and experimental animation. Her current projects address spiritual and social dimensions of our current ecological crises. Elizabeth’s upcoming solo exhibition, “Each Day, Water: A Monument for the Water Protectors of Standing Rock and Beyond,” which will open October 2, 2018 at Art Centro in Poughkeepsie, New York, received a Project Grant through the New York State Decentralization Arts Grant Program administered through Arts Mid-Hudson. The artist will donate 100 percent of funds raised from “Each Day, Water” to the Mní Wičhóni Nakíčižin (Defenders of the Water School) for children at the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, which started at the Oceti Sakowin Prayer Camp. Elizabeth has been a student of Buddhism for more than 20 years and has studied and practiced in Burma, Nepal and the United States. More about Elizabeth can be found at
